Chatham Town chairman Jeff Talbot says manager Kevin Horlock has his full support in his bid to change playing ethos at the club

Chatham chairman Jeff Talbot is happy to give manager Kevin Horlock time to make his mark.

Horlock has worked on bringing the under-21 side closer to the first team and in the last few months attempted to introduce a more attacking style to their play.

Results have yet to pick up, with the club 10 points off the relegation places in Ryman League, Division 1 South but Talbot is willing to be patient.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Molesey, Talbot said: “This is a rebuilding season for me. It’s our first season back in the Southern league and we have changed our manager part the way through the season.

“We just need to ensure we don’t get caught by those teams in the bottom three and we can be looking at being stronger next season and doing a lot better. Kevin is aware that needs to happen.

“He is building a young squad and that is starting with the under-21s. We are giving the team a bedrock to build from and we are then looking to put a bit of experience around it. We are not expecting to win anything in the short term but to build things up.

“We have got a good few youngsters and they will make mistakes but if you don’t give them a chance, you lose them. We are willing to give them that chance.

“It is only just the beginning. We are pragmatic at Chatham. We have to chip away at the problem, rather than throw pounds at it.”
