Lordswood manager Neil Hunter says he detests social media as Covid-hit club targeted by trolls

Lordswood manager Neil Hunter says he detests social media after positive Covid tests were questioned by trolls.

Two Lords players tested positive following their penalty shoot-out defeat in an FA Cup replay at Knaphill last week.

The total has since risen to six - five players and a member of staff. Last weekend’s game against Welling Town was called off along with Tuesday night’s derby with Chatham.

Lords are without a fixture anyway this weekend so their next competitive game is set to be on August 28 against K Sports.

Hunter has taken exception to suggestions Lords have used Covid as an excuse not to play.

He said: “You get certain people - keyboard warriors - making comments.

“People are entitled to their opinions but don’t ever anyone not trust what I say or doubt what I say.

“I’m an honourable man, a truthful man and to question my integrity is all wrong.

“I detest social media, it’s absolute filth, rotten to the core, but it’s the way of life now.

“This couldn’t have happened at a worse time - there’s no way we wouldn’t want to play.

“We’re unbeaten in our last two games over 90 minutes - I know we went out of the cup on penalties but we drew both games, and that’s progress for us.

“We missed out on playing Chatham on Tuesday, which would have been a money-spinning game for us, so we wouldn’t have wanted that game off.

“I love what we’re creating here and I’m protective of my players. Anything directed at them hurts me.

“They’re my outside family. People need to engage their brain and think before pressing enter on a social media platform.

“These comments are disrespectful and there’s no need for it.

“Online bullying is a different level because people sit behind a keyboard and hide who they really are.

“Some of the things you read are ridiculous.

“Covid is real. We’ve had six people go down with it. I don’t know what the answer is.”
