The Gills are short of options upfront, with Oli Hawkins and Ashley Nadesan out injured. Tom Nichols has been training but he has also been suffering with an injury, playing last weekend with a back problem.

Walker was sent out to National League Woking to regain his match fitness after being out after picking up an injury in pre-season.

He scored off the bench on his debut for his loan side but returned to the Gills with a muscle strain. Three more games followed, after getting over the setback, with a trio of league starts, without netting.

Gbode, 18, has made two league appearances for the Gills this season and a two others in cup competitions but joined National South Maidstone to see how he could handle more regular football.

His loan deal was only initially agreed for a month and the Gills have decided to get him back.

Gbode made just three appearances for the Stones, including one league start, where he played an hour. He didn’t find the net.

Neither player featured in the earlier round of the FA Cup so are free to play, if required, as the Gills take on National North Hereford in the first round this Saturday.
