The squad included double Olympic medallist Bryony Page and European synchro champion Izzy Songhurst, and all three produced when it mattered to finish just behind China.

A delighted Brownsey, who competed the third and final British routine in the final, said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. That was crazy!

“It’s my first team final and although it wasn’t my best routine I’m so glad I had enough grit and determination. It’s so fun competing with these two. They’re amazing.”

Competing at just her second senior World Championships, the former junior world champion also achieved personal-best results in the individual competition, where she finished 16th having made it through to the semi-finals.

Brownsey added: “It’s been such a cool experience this year. I felt a lot more confident going into this competition. My training has been really good.

“ My goal was to make a semi-final and hopefully to make a team final, and we achieved both of those things and more which is so good.

“Coming away 16th in the world is crazy and I’m delighted about it. In the team final, we knew we had a chance of coming third but the longer the competition went on, we knew we had a chance at silver.

“Izzy and Bryony were great, and I was very nervous going last. The whole team were so supportive and encouraged me. I was delighted with a clean routine. I still can’t quite believe it.”

Speaking about the support Jumpers have given her, she said: “My club is like my second family.

“My coach, James Coomber, is an absolutely incredible person. He’s got me through a lot these last few years and he’s such a role model.

“I also received a little video from the younger gymnasts at the club saying well done, so that was really cute.

“It’s nice that the whole club has been backing me through this competition. It’s been special.”

It was a historic championships for Great Britain as they secured their best-ever results, returning home with four golds, two silvers and one bronze medal.

British Gymnastics chief executive Sarah Powell said: “It was a fantastic World Championships for the whole team and the perfect way to end what has been a great year for trampoline, tumbling and DMT, with success at both European and world level.

“Performances like these don’t come without the hard work and dedication of the gymnasts, but also of the coaches, clubs and support staff that give them the opportunity to shine. Congratulations should go to all that have played their part.”
