GILLS caretaker boss Iffy Onuora faces an uncertain future, but he is happy to have been given the chance to build up his profile and experience at Priestfield.

Onuora has been in charge - initially with Mick Docherty - since Ronnie Jepson left the club over a month ago.

He had hoped to get the job on a permanent bassis but Gills chairman Paul Scally is looking elsewhere and is expected to make an announcement soon.

Onuora said: "I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been challenging, particularly the nature of how it’s panned out.

"These are all learning curves and in coaching and management terms I’m still young. It’s a bit more experience and knowledge to my bow.

"I won’t look back at it with any regrets. It’s been hard work but nothing that you enjoy in life is ever less than hard work, so I wouldn’t complain too much."

Onuora is more than willing to continue in his role but, with no midweek game, the timing is right for a new manager to come in and prepare the side for Saturday’s trip to Carlisle.
