Medway and Maidstone hosted an open competition at Medway Park on Sunday with 160 performances recorded in difficult conditions, writes Alan Newman.
Keira Rose took the under-11 girls’ 75m sprint in 11.55sec and Luke Stringer (11.81) won the boys’ race. The mixed 600m was won by George Seery (Thanet, 1min46.43sec).
Emily Featherstone (13.11) won the under-13 70m hurdles and Michael Watson ran 11.37 for 100m but had to concede to Joe Steele (10.68) of Thames Valley Harriers. Darryl Francis-Wright (under-17, 12.49) and Alex Donnelly (under-13, 14.66) led their categories, and a second round saw Watson (11.33) and Francis-Wright (11.40) go faster.
The women’s 100m races included a win for Shauna McFarlane (12.98) in the senior event. At 300m there was a close finish between under-17 Imogen Munday (41.84) and under-15 Megan Walsh (41.95) and under-15 Jacques Cunningham-Marsh (56.64) took the 400m race. Reece Dimech (22.73) was fastest at 200m.
In the 800m, under-17s Cameron Payas (2.06.39) and Amy Brooks (2.43.36) led the way. Max Read (under-17, 4.53.24) and Bashiri Ryan (under-13, 5.02.13) headed the 1,500m.
There were category wins for under-17 Joseph Thurgood (4.74m), under-13 Emily Featherstone (4.30), under-15 Grace Adelaye (4.17) and under-11 Gabriel Lordon (3.49) at long jump. Thurgood (1.70) took the high jump, where there was more age group success for under-13 Lucy Maunders (1.30) and Adeleye (1.30).
Rachel Midwinter (under-15, 21.24) and Lauren Farley (under-13, 19.35) also won their javelin competitions.
