Boxes of bananas left over from the food stops on the ride were donated to Canterbury-based Changing Lives after the event.

The bananas were supplied free of the charge for the event by the Southern Co-operative.

KM Charity Team staff took the food down to the charity’s offices the day after the ride.

More than 300 cyclists completed the challenge, raising £15,000 for good causes.

KM Charity Team event and fundraising manager Dominic Comins said: “The ride was such a great success, raising so much money for so many great charities, and we still had sacks of bananas left afterwards.

“We thought it would be a shame to see all that food go to waste, and could think of few more deserving recipients than Catching Lives.

“They were delighted to receive it so they could share it with their beneficiaries.”
