Dogs do their bit to help hospital patients

Pet pooches were put their paces at a fun dog show held at part of the QEQM hospital League of Friends annual summer fair.

About 50 dogs and their owners took part in a number of classes.

The fair raised £5,500 towards the friends’ target of £11,000 to re-equip and refurbish the discharge lounge in an old ward in the St Peter’s Road part of the hospital.

Friends committee member Sylvia Pheils said: “People in the discharge lounge have been making do with a collection of old furniture. The lounge exists as a place for patients to wait once they have been discharged by doctors.

“Its purpose is to free up beds on the main wards and sometimes people have to stay there for some time while waiting for such things as medicine from the pharmacy, test results or their lifts home.

“We want to provide nice, comfortable furniture, a good television and games. We would like to get it done by the end of the year.”

~The Tremeloes will be in the spotlight at a QEQM League of Friends sixties night on Saturday, October 11, at Pfizer Social Club, Richborough. Tickets are £17.50. For more details and reservations call 01843 234507.
