A student is stepping out in style to help raise funds for a cancer charity.

Jess Walter, 22, who is studying Creative Events at the University of Kent’s Medway campus, is organising a sponsored walk at Capstone Park, Gillingham, for Cancer Research UK.

Miss Walter has a special reason for organising the walk, her step-mum Debbie Walter, 39, from Lenham has breast cancer.

She said: “With 100 women being diagnosed with breast cancer every day in the UK, I am delighted to organise this walk to help beat it, and I need people in Medway to register now.”

Miss Walter will be using skills she has learnt from her university course to make the walk a success.

There will be a fancy dress competition, a magician and reiki healing.

The walk will be held on Saturday October 25 to coincide with breast cancer awareness month.

Helen Waters, Cancer Research UK’s area volunteer manager in Chatham said: “The Capstone Park walk looks set to be a wonderful day out for all the family. Everyone who registers gets a fund-raising pack and will be part of many breast cancer awareness walks in aid of Cancer Research UK, happening all over the country across October.”

* Those wanting to take part in the walk need to register in advance. Visit www.cancerresearchuk.org/breastcancer for details or call Jess on 01622 673645.
