Mr Stoakes of Whitstable is one of the some-36,000 entrants to the annual distance run which accumulates millions of pounds for good causes.

A self-proclaimed keen runner, he has been training incredibly hard during the build up to the event and has taken part in local runs including the Deal Half Marathon.

So far Mr Stoakes has raised a remarkable £1,000 for his run, but there is still time to donate and support his fundraising efforts.

The KM Charity Team offers green travel initiatives to promote a healthier, safer lifestyle for school children, as well as supporting literacy developments through home reading schemes.

More than 40,000 school children across Kent, Medway and Bexley benefit from Walk on Wednesday (WOW), Active Bug and Green Footsteps which teach children essential road safety skills as well as protecting the environment from harmful emissions.

Last academic year alone the schemes saw a record-breaking reduction of 250,871 car journeys from local roads.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team, said: “I am beyond thrilled to have our charitable work represented at the London Marathon. It is one of the world’s flagship sporting events and we are sincerely thankful for Carl’s support and dedication. We urge everyone to make a donation and build upon his already fantastic fundraising.”

He added: “We’ll be cheering on our marathon man as he dashes through the streets of the British Capital!”
