TAKING part in the KM Group’s next thrilling charity challenge will also earn readers a place in history.

The first ever zip wire challenge to be staged from the top of the historic Dane John Gardens will be held on Saturday, October 18 with places limited to 120 participants.

The adrenaline event will raise funds for the Lady Mayoress of Canterbury’s Charity Appeal, which this year is supporting the Footlights Trust. Seventy per cent of proceeds will go to the Trust and 30 per cent of funds raised will go to the children’s road safety charity Kent Walking Bus.

To take part readers must pledge to raise a minimum of £75 for the charity pot. Event packs can be requested online at www.kmcharitychallenge.co.uk The KM charity team are able to help readers brave enough to take part to set up JustGiving pages so they can raise funds from family and work colleagues via the web and with the added boost of getting the tax man to chip in to the charities.

The number of places will be limited to 120 although to make the day a success 50 people are needed to sign up.

Extra sponsors are needed to help cover the cost of the professional team staging the event. Parry Law, True Grip Off Road and Robert Mitchell hair studio have already agreed to help cover the cost of the event.

To ensure participants have their involvement recorded for posterity everyone taking part will receive a celebratory certificate and be listed on the Kent Walking Bus charity which administers the challenge event.

Simon Dolby from the walk to school team said: “This will be a very special challenge as no one has ever attempted to stage a zip wire event from the top of the historic burial mound before. The view is spectacular of the city and the rush on the way down will be fantastic.”
