Evacuees travel along memory lane

FIFTY former evacuees from the Medway area were recently reunited by Millwood Designer Homes on the site of their old school at Wrens Warren in Hartfield, in the Ashdown Forest.

According to Millwood, the group of former evacuees, who are now in their 60s and 70s, were reunited last year to visit the site of Wrens Warren before Millwood Designer Homes began work, to see what the company had planned for the area.

On this occasion, they were invited back to see the finished product and if the gasps of delight were anything to go by, they were not disappointed by what they saw.

Doreen Baldwin, chairman of the Evacuee Reunion Group, said: “The homes at Wrens Warren are out of this world. The day brought back many wonderful memories and we are so grateful to Millwood to inviting us to our school for the last time. I’m sure that the new residents will be as happy here as we were.”

Jeff Elliott, deputy managing director of Millwood Designer Homes, said: “This reunion has been all about honouring the past while looking forward to the future. We are incredibly proud of the work we have done at Wrens Warren, and felt that it was important to share with all those people that have such a strong connection with the area." Prices for the homes at Wrens Warren start from £1.35 million, and viewing of the show home is by appointment only.
