Extensions cover plan worth considering

MORE and more homeowners are extending their properties instead of moving. But the up, not out, generation are in danger of discovering their insurance cover does not fit their newlook properties.

Property price inflation has outstripped building cost inflation by an average of three per cent a year for the last five years, meaning the cost of extending a home has become significantly cheaper compared to moving out.

However, homeowners who decide to extend their homes often fail to review their cover. Halifax Home Insurance, however, offers unlimited sum insured cover to ensure this problem never arises.

For those extending their property, Halifax buildings and contents policyholders are only required to notify of improvements that add either additional bedrooms or garages to the property. Kitchen extensions, living room extensions or conservatories are covered automatically.
