POLICE have been forced to reintroduce Operation Stack again due to the ongoing SeaFrance industrial strike.

The measure - which sees freight traffic bound for the Port of Dover parking on coastbound stretches of the motorway - was stood down at around 4.45am this morning, but was implemented again before lunchtime.

Phase Two is in effect, which closes the carriageway between junction 8 (Leeds Castle, near Maidstone) and junction 9 (Ashford north) to allow freight traffic to queue. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes.

Operation Stack has been in place for part of every day since Thursday, February 28 and there are now real fears it will hamper the Easter weekend.
