Police appeal after robbery

Kent police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery in Short Street, Sandwich, on Tuesday evening.

A security van was parked in the road outside the Nationwide building society at about 8.30pm, while two security men were refilling the cash machine inside the bank.

A man pushed open the door, which hit one of the security guards who fell to the floor. The man grabbed the cassette containing a large quantity of cash and ran off.

It is believed that two men went into the bank and a third was also seen running from the direction of the bank.

There were also reports of a dark coloured VW Golf Mk 3 seen in the area.

The people in the Golf are believed to have gone into the Nationwide around the time of the incident. Officers would like to talk to them to eliminate them from their investigation.

The two men who went into the building society are described as white, aged 23-28, 6ft, proportionate build and he had blond hair. The second was black, aged 23-28, 6ft, of stocky build.

No weapons were used, and no one was injured during this incident.
