A CCTV image of a man police want to speak to in connection with the theft of a car with a baby boy inside has been released.

A black VW Golf was stolen from the car park at the bottle bank in Suffolk Way, Sevenoaks, at 10.20am on Friday while the 19-month-old child's mother was using the recycling bins.

A police search operation was immediately launched. A police helicopter was called to help with an aerial search and search dogs were put on standby.

Just before 10.50am a member of the public rang police to say that they were at Otford railway station and they had found a little boy in the station.

A police patrol in the area went to the station and was quickly able to confirm that it was the missing boy.

The boy's mother was taken to him and they were happily reunited. He was not hurt.

The boy's father said: "We would like to thank the police for their immediate response and support throughout the day. We are immensely grateful to have our son back with us unharmed."

The CCTV image shows a man carrying the child into Otford railway station. He is white, aged late 20s to 30s, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in, and wearing a blue hooded top and blue jeans.

The registration of the stolen car is Y343 MJO.

Police are appealing for information and anyone who can help is asked to call them 01732 379217. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
