Knockholt: 79-year-old man dies after crashing into tree

An elderly man has died after crashing into a tree.

The 79-year-old, from Sevenoaks, sustained serious injuries when his silver Skoda Fabia collided with a tree on Old London Road, Knockholt last Thursday.

He was taken in critical condition to a London hospital, but sadly died over the weekend.

His next of kin has been informed.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is looking into the crash, which happened just before 6.30pm.

Kent Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Investigating officer DC Mark Robinson said: "Kent Police was called to a report of a single vehicle collision on Old London Road, near the junction with Birchwood Lane, Knockholt.

"It appears the Skoda Fabia was travelling from Dunton Green towards Knockholt Pound when, for reasons as yet unknown, it left the carriageway and collided with a tree.

"Any person who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle prior to the incident who has not yet spoken with the police, is asked to call 01622 798538, or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk quoting incident 06-1186."
