Mike Conway is heading for America to compete in the Indy Racing League.

The Sevenoaks driver has spent the last two seasons racing in the GP2 series but has opted for a new challenge this year.

Conway, 25, has agreed to race for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and among the tracks he’ll be competing on will be the infamous Indy 500 - known as the Brickyard.

The driver walks away from the GP2 series which had many ups and downs. But victory in Monte Carlo earned him plenty of praise.

Conway said: “I’m looking forward to the opportunity.

“I’ll be visiting a lot of new tracks for the first time, especially oval tracks, but I’m very much looking forward to the challenge.”

In 2004 Conway won the Formula Renault UK title and victory in the British Formula 3 series two years later earned him the chance to race in GP2 alongside the F1 championship.

Conway will begin testing at the end of February at the Homestead-Miami Speedway before the season opener on April 5 in St Petersburg, Florida.
