A police Tweet read: "Despite the best efforts of our dog unit, the suspects remain outstanding.

"They have however left their phone and keys in the car."

The incident happened at about 11.30pm on Wednesday, October 12.

A spokesman said: "officers reported seeing a vehicle speeding and requested it to stop in Leysdown Road, Eastchurch.

"However, the vehicle failed to stop, and police followed the vehicle at a safe distance before it was involved in a collision with street furniture near Seaview Avenue, Warden.

"The driver and passenger are reported to have left the area and despite an extensive search they were not located at the time.

"Officers have since made several enquiries, including talking to the registered owner of the car, and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have yet been made."
