The driver of this car had a lucky escape after a park bench stopped it falling into water when it slipped down a bank in wet weather.

Our photographer Rob Canis was at Barton’s Point Coastal Park in Marine Parade, Sheerness, on Monday when he came across the scene.

The car belongs to Mandy Shade, who runs the Boathouse Cafe at the park.

She joked that she was trying to invent a new sport of car diving.

“I’m not really sure what happened, it’s a bit of a blur,” she added.

“But I did see my life flash before me and if it wasn’t for the park bench I would have been in the water upside down.

“There was a man who came and helped me and he was fabulous and very supportive so I would like to thank him.”

There was not much damage to the car and Mandy was uninjured.

Our photographer had been there to get pictures of an open day but because of the weather it was called off.

The open day will now take place on Tuesday, June 5, when different clubs and societies including the Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club and Queenborough Rowing Club will be showing what they offer.
