An inmate who climbed onto the roof of a Sheppey prison has come down.

Negotiators were called to HMP Swaleside to talk to the inmate who is believed to have climbed onto the roof at about 4pm yesterday.

A prison office spokesman said no prison officers or inmates have been harmed in the incident.

It is not known why he has staged his protest or if demands have been made.

Previously inmates have climbed onto netting strung between walkways at the prison, and refused to get off.
