Lower Road, Sheppey, shut after accident between Minster and Eastchurch

Rush hour traffic was delayed after a crash involving a car and a motorbike shut a main road.

The A2500, Lower Road, was shut in both directions on the Isle of Sheppey at around 5.15pm after an incident happened between Scocles Road, Minster On Sea, to the B2008 Eastchurch Road, Eastchurch.

There was congestion around Soccles Road, Chequers Road and Eastchurch Street as traffic was diverted.

A motorcyclist and driver were both taken to Medway Hospital for their injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing an air ambulance land near the scene with heavy traffic queuing from Lower Road to Back Lane.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called at approximately 4.30pm on Monday to reports of an RTC involving a car and a motorbike on Lower Road, Eastchurch.

"Ambulance crews and the Kent, Surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance Service attended the scene.

"Two patients, the male motorcyclist and the driver of the car, were assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by road.

The road has reopened in both directions.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Officers were called at around 4.30pm on Monday, May 16, following a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on Lower Road, Eastchurch.

"Officers attended and the rider of the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

"The road was closed in both directions and reopened by 6.45pm."
