Many happy returns as Win turns 100

A great-grandmother has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Winifred Barber, who is known as Win, celebrated becoming a centenarian at her home in Bromfield House, Minster.

The centre held a party for Win which was attended by her friends and family and the Mayor and Mayoress of Swale, cllrs Alan and Jean Willicombe,

Win was born in Rochester on December 11, 1908 and moved to the Island when she was young because of her father’s job.

She then met George Barber, and they married in Betel Church, Sheerness.

They were married for more than 40 years, but George passed away when he 74.

The couple had three children – Sylvia, Peter and Shirley, but Shirley died 12 years ago.

Win has eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her daughter Sylvia said: “She’s very well looked after at Bromfield House, where she’s been for more than a year.

“She’s very happy and she had a wonderful time at the party.”
