School children won their mums some top prizes in a Mother’s Day competition.

The Shurland Hotel offered pupils at nearby Eastchurch Primary School the chance to write why their mum deserves to win in a poem or short story.

Staff at the High Street hotel picked the winners and four top prizes were given out for the best entries and there were prizes for all the children who took part.

First prize of six months’ membership to the Island Gym and Spa went to nine-year-old Joseph Fowler for his mum Yvette.

Rebecca Ratchford, 10, won her mum Bex second prize which was a two-course dinner for two with wine.

Champagne afternoon tea for two was third prize and that was won by Maisy Greensmith, eight, for her mum Jayne.

Ten-year-old Emily Collard won her mum Sophie fourth prize, which was a psychic reading with Charlotte Clarke.

The Shurland’s events manager Mark Leith said: “It was nice to read all the stories and poems.”

The entries are being displayed in the hotel’s reception.
