A teenage Paralympic bronze medallist was recognised with an award from the Mayor of Swale.

Ross Wilson, of Seaside Avenue, Minster, was presented with a music voucher and a framed certificate by Cllr Pat Sandle as a thank you for his efforts at the Games.

The 17-year-old table tennis star earned a place on the podium when he and team-mate Will Bayley beat a German pair 3-0 at the ExCel Arena in London.

He was taken to the Swale Youth Forum, at Swale House, East Street, Sittingbourne, in the civic car.

After the presentation, Ross, who received funding from the Sittingbourne Invicta Rotary Club, answered questions posed by members of the group.

Cllr Sandle commented on the athlete’s achievement at a full council meeting where it was decided the authority would send him a letter of congratulations.

She said: “He came across as a really nice young lad. The school kids were asking him questions and he was telling them how he has to train.

“The last thing we all said to him is we expect to see him in Rio in four years’ time.”
