Carers can find out about support available to them at the click of a button thanks to a charity’s revamped website.

Swale and Canterbury Carers’ Support launched its new look site – www.swalecarers.org.uk – two weeks ago and a newly-added visitor counter shows more than 400 people have already looked at it to date.

It boasts 22 pages, all of which provide in-depth information regarding the services the charity provides to carers of all ages and their families.

There are also useful links to other organisations such as Carers UK, Age Concern and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.

Visitors can also look up annual reports, back issues of newsletters and find out how to donate to the Sheerness-based charity which aims to reduce the stress and stigma caused as a result of the caring role.

The site wouldn’t be possible without the help of Peter Lovelock – father of the charity’s chief executive officer Chris Lovelock.

The 75-year-old Iwade resident created the site two years ago free of charge and has been maintaining and updating it ever since. He is also responsible for its new look.

Mrs Lovelock said: “He’s self-taught. The first website he did was for the East Kent Schoolboy Scramble Club and he said if I wanted one done, he’d do it. It’s great because it means it doesn’t cost us anything.”

The site also features the KM Group’s logo as the charity is the Times Guardian’s charity of the year.

Mrs Lovelock said: “It’s much brighter, clearer and easier to read and there’s lots more information on there than there was before.”

The charity supports more than 900 carers over the age of 18 in the Swale and Canterbury area as well as 230 young carers aged between five and 19 across Sittingbourne and Sheppey. As well as offering help it also organises respite activities.
