Young parents will be learning basic cookery skills at a monthly session with the community chef.

Following the success of Basic Lifestyles Cookery courses which ran at Seashells Children and Families’ Centre last year, community chef Mike Spackman will continue with them this year.

The idea of the course is to show young families how easy it is to make simple, tasty meals with basic ingredients, on a budget.

The courses were completed in December and everyone who took part received a certificate.

Kerry Langdon, Home-Start project worker and young parents worker, said: “This has been a great course for the young parents – they have made some really tasty dishes and learnt valuable new skills.

“Mike Spackman will be coming back once a month to continue to work with the Young Parents Group.”

The courses were deemed such a success, that two more are due to start today (Thursday) and a further course is also planned after Easter.

One course is aimed at parents and carers of pre-school children and an evening course specifically for dads.
