Homes planned opposite proposed Lidl supermarket at Cowstead Corner, Sheppey

Plans have been submitted to build new homes with “architectural distinction” opposite a proposed supermarket.

The scheme, submitted by DHA Planning on behalf of Sheppey Gateway Ltd, is for six houses at Cowstead Corner, in Queenborough Road, Sheppey.

If approved Cowstead Farmhouse, which dates back to 1864 and is described as being uninhabitable, will be demolished.

In its place a mix of three, four and five-bedroom homes will be built on the 0.38-hectare site.

The scheme is described as “an efficient use of brownfield land to provide a sympathetic new development which positively responds to its surroundings.”

The homes would be in the design of a “traditional farmstead courtyard”, with black weatherboarding and red bricks, according to the plans.

A planning statement said they would have “architectural distinction” and include covered car barns to look like farm outbuildings.

If approved the homes would be opposite a proposed Lidl, planned for Cowstead Corner roundabout which also connects the A2500 and Sheppey Way.

A decision on the supermarket looks set to be made next week.

The farmhouse plans should be determined by August 24.
