Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted arson at a house in Minster.

Firefighters and police were called to the house in Blatcher Close at about 9.55pm last night (Wednesday).

Kent Fire and Rescue service had been called by a neighbour who said someone had tried to set the front door alight.

A crew from Sheppey rushed to the scene and were able to put the fire out before it spread any further.

No one was hurt in the blaze but £500 damage was done to the UPVC door.

Island Neighbourhood Inspector, Steve Griffiths, said: "Although no-one was injured and only a door was damaged this could have had far worse repercussions had it not been for the quick actions of neighbours.

“We take incidents like this very seriously and the actions of the irresponsible person who tried to start this fire will not be tolerated.

"I urge anyone who has any information to contact us."

Anyone who saw the incident or anyone acting suspiciously in the area last night should contact police on 01795 419336 or Kent Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111, quoting CY/5122/10.
