Schools are still closed as snow falls on the Island for the third day in a row.

It has started to settle in some areas of Sheppey, and it looks set to continue through the weekend.

Police have said that Minster Road is becoming impassable and even 4x4s are struggling and there is also thick fog across the Island.

Yesterday, people were forced to abandon their cars on Minster Road.

Buses are still replacing trains between Sheerness station and Sittingbourne station.

Swale council has suspended all refuse and recycling collections for the day.

Residents are being asked to leave their bins out and bin men will get to them as soon as possible.

A spokesman said: "Please rest assured we will do all we can to provide a service to all properties in the days ahead.

"We are in contact with the Met Office and are monitoring the position.

"Our plan of operation is obviously weather-dependent but our aim is to clear all overdue collections as soon as possible."
