Dore Metals Sheppey Sunday League secretary Mark Rogers wants all member clubs to achieve Charter Standard status within two years.

The league itself is celebrating after becoming only the sixth league in Kent to receive Charter Standard recognition.

A delighted Mr Rogers (pictured) said: "I am pleased. I went on the committee and within a year I became secretary, wanting to make sure it was run properly.

"We were once known as the poor relation in Kent but are now looked upon as one of the best Sunday leagues in the county.

"I am so proud of what we have achieved and I must thank my wife Lisa, the registration secretary, who has borne the brunt of it."

A total of 63% of league clubs are now Charter Standard and all clubs have to achieve it by the end of next season.

New clubs this season will have one season’s grace before they have to apply but thereafter, no club will be elected without it.

Mr Rogers told the clubs: "We are continuing to set standards and if you have not become Charter Standard yet we will be chasing you to apply. We plan to have 100% within two years."
