Police helicopter over Sittingbourne and Sheppey aids hunt for suspected thieves

Police blocked off a section of the A249 on Sheppey for a short time this evening in hopes of intercepting a suspect car.

But despite the help of a police helicopter hovering over parts of Swale, the suspects are still on the run.

Police told KentOnline that shortly after 7pm, the National Police Air Service helicopter was used to help search areas of Sittingbourne and Sheppey for a vehicle connected with a number of reported thefts.

Officers also blocked off the A249 leading to the Sheppey Crossing at the new Cowstead Corner.

By 8.30pm, the suspect vehicle had not been located and the helicopter has since been stood down.
