Thieves stole three buggies from Sheerness Golf Club in one night.

The raiders struck on Thursday or early Friday, breaking into a locked compound.

One of the vehicles was later found nearby but the other two have gone without trace.

Bosses say they have no idea how the buggies, which are valued between £500 and £1,000, were taken away.

The thefts follow a similar case three years ago when a missing vehicle was later found on Sheerness beach.

Members at the club, in Power Station Road, Halfway, pay to keep their buggies on site.

Owners Jim Poole and Chic McGlynne have spoken of their disappointment.

They used the buggies to get around the course because of ill-health.

Mr Poole, who has been a member for 18 years, had his re-conditioned white Yamaha model taken.

The 82-year-old Bell Farm Lane resident said: “I’m really upset. Playing golf is all I can do.

“I can’t exercise now because of the arthritis in my knees.”

Mr McGlynne, 76, who had his lower right leg amputated 10 years ago, had his year-old EZ GO cart pinched.

He said: “I have been a member for 24 years and the golf club has really looked after me.

“I find it bewildering how the thieves could get away unnoticed.It’s a disappointment.”

Club secretary Alex Tindall said: “We had another taken in 2011/12 which was found by the beach at Sheerness.

“This time an attempt was made to take three, but we managed to recover one which was left damaged close to the entrance of Scrapsgate.

“It’s stopped Jim and Chic playing.”

The incident was reported to police on Friday morning by staff.
