Chalkwell Coach Hire in Sittingbourne helps transport baton from Bobbing to Whitstable to mark Women's Institute’s 100th anniversary

A baton was transported from Bobbing to Whitstable to mark the 100th anniversary of the Women’s Institute.

Placed on a cushion the green and white eight inch stick was driven, along with members, to various locations on a 16-seater mini bus which was provided free of charge by Chalkwell.

The vehicle, which was decorated with bunting, started at Bobbing Hall and visited a number of towns and villages which have WI groups, including Bapchild, Faversham, Graveney and Seasalter.

The wand began its nationwide journey at the start of the year and will end at the Royal Albert Hall for the organisation’s annual meeting next June.

Beryl Ravensdale, from Whitstable, organised the coach firm’s sponsorship on behalf of the group when it came to East Kent on December 10.

Karen Lockyer, Chalkwell coach hire and tour sales manager, said: “Beryl contacted me and asked if it would be possible to supply a mini bus to take their centenary batten from Bobbing through to Whitstable.

“Chalkwell had no hesitation in agreeing to their request.”
