A249 Maidstone-bound shut from Key Street roundabout to Bobbing Roundabout due to broken down lorry

A main road has closed due to a broken-down lorry.

The A249 Maidstone-bound is shut from the Key Street roundabout to the Bobbing roundabout in Sittingbourne.

It is due to a broken-down HGV blocking both lanes of the route – which connects Sittingbourne to the Isle of Sheppey.

Kent Police are at the scene while the lorry is recovered.

National Highways is urging drivers to follow diversion routes by exiting the stretch at the Bobbing Interchange and travelling to Sheppey Way, before taking the third exit from the Key Street roundabout to re-join the A249.

A spokesman for the force said: “Kent Police was called at 12.05pm on Thursday, December 5 to assist with a broken down lorry on the A249 near Bobbing.

“Officers are at the scene while the lorry is recovered.”
