AN 84-year-old man died after collapsing next to the A2 in Sittingbourne.

The pensioner, whose name has not yet been released by police, was found suffering head injuries at about 12.45pm on Thursday.

At first it was believed he was the victim of a hit-and-run incident but medics now believe he died of natural causes.

Police closed off the section of the road from Staplehurst Road to the Key Street roundabout for more than two hours.

An air ambulance was scrambled but stood down when medics at the scene could not revive the man, who comes from London.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and would welcome information from witnesses on 01795 477055.
