The killer of a former Upchurch woman has been jailed for at least 30 years in a case which has made international headlines.

Malcolm Webster was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow after being found guilty of murdering his 32-year-old wife Claire in May 1994.

Her death was originally put down to a tragic car accident but when it was revealed Webster’s second wife had almost died in a similar accident in New Zealand, police re-opened the case.

The sentencing has been welcomed by Claire’s brother, Peter Morris, who says the family is still coming to terms with the fact Webster fooled everyone for 14 years.

To help with their grief, they have set up a foundation which aims to help those who have been affected by crime.
