Hundreds of people are expected to attend a fundraising event in aid of Help for Heroes.

Glam rock band Shameful Behaviour will kick start the gig at The Fountain pub, in Station Street, Sittingbourne, when they take to the stage at 1pm on Saturday.

Other local bands due to play include Cellar 39, Primitive Instinct, The Spider Monkeys and Bad Pennies.

Leigh Kedwell, centre manger of St George’s Business Park on Sittingbourne’s Eurolink Industrial Estate, organised the event in a bid to raise £2,200 in sponsorship money so he can take part in the charity’s Big Battlefield Bike Ride in May.

He said: "I would be surprised if I didn’t raise £800 to £1,000 from Saturday’s event. I’ve had a lot of interest in it.

"So far the landlord has managed to sell about £300 worth of raffle tickets and there are some great prizes thanks to lots of local businesses.

"There’s no entry fee but we are asking for donations so I’m relying on people’s generosity.

"I’m really looking forward to it."

To date Leigh has raised £1,600 but there have been no takers after he offered to have a company’s logo tattooed on his calf in return for a large donation to charity.

He said: "I thought someone might be interested but I’ve had nothing.

"I’ve set a deadline for the end of February because I can’t have an open wound on my leg when my training gets more intensive. "However, if any wants to donate a large some of money to me anyway I’ll gladly accept it."

In a bid to raise further funds Leigh’s wife Louise inviting people for a meal at their home in Folkestone in the style of TV’s Restaurant in Our Living Room.

Leigh said: "The first meal, which was a pie night, took place last Saturday. We had about seven people attend including a woman I haven’t seen since I left school at the age of 16! She came along after reading about it on Facebook.

"Everyone was well fed. It was a great night.

"We’ve got three more planned with 10 people coming to each. We did set a minimum donation limit of about £10 to £12 a head but on Saturday people gave between £15 and £20 because it was for charity."
