Mystery over pair of birds on the loose

By Hayley Robinson

A peacock and peahen have been making a bit of nuisance of themselves.

The male and female birds were spotted in the garden of Beryl and Nobby Holdstock, of Woodside Gardens, Sittingbourne, who were woken up at 6.45am by duck-like noises coming from beneath their bedroom window.

When Mrs Holdstock went down to the kitchen she came face-to-face with the birds staring at her through her glass kitchen door.

She said: "For the next three mornings they woke us up at 4.45am."

The birds have also been spotted in Minterne Avenue and Windsor Drive.

"When they were together they were fine but when one disappeared the other was calling out," Mrs Holdstock added. "They were a bit of a nuisance because they ate peas and beans out of one garden.

"I have no idea where they've come from but someone must be missing them. They were quite tame because I fed them some bread and they came up within a foot of us to eat it."
