Outside gym opening delayed by snow

By Hayley Robinson

Plans to build an outside gym have been put on hold due to the snow.

Contractors Wicksteed, from Kettering in Northamptonshire, were due to start laying the concrete base ready to install the equipment at Ceres Court, Murston, at the beginning of the month but the freezing temperatures meant the concrete wouldn’t set.

The delay meant Swale council was unable to launch the facility today (Monday) as it had first hoped, but they are hopeful the gym will be open for use by February.

The project is funded by the Big Lottery fund, and once completed it will be Sittingbourne’s first outside gym.

It will cost £30,000 to construct and equipment includes an agility bench, a horseback rider, a chest press, a leg press, equipment that allows people to perform pull-ups and pull-downs and also a piece of equipment that replicates ski-ing motions.

No training is needed to use the equipment, but a guidance board will be erected explaining how to do the work-outs.

It is hoped the outdoor gym equipment and teenage shelter will complement the ball court that is already on the site.

Contractor Wicksteed, from Kettering in Northamptonshire, will construct the gym.
