Police divers search lake in Great Easthall Way, Sittingbourne, in hunt for Kyle Yule murder weapon

A diving team was called in to search a lake in Sittingbourne in connection with the alleged murder of Gillingham teenager Kyle Yule.

The 17-year-old was said to have been running from a silver Renault Clio that was being vandalised when he was stabbed in the right armpit in a gang dispute in East Street on the evening of Friday, October 6.

He later died in hospital.

Yesterday, police divers trawled a lake in Great Easthall Way, Sittingbourne.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were searching the lake for a discarded weapon that may have been used in a murder in Gillingham on October 6.

"Nothing was found, inquiries continue."

Residents posted on Facebook that they had seen the divers at the lake at about 11am yesterday, and they were still there until at least 2.30pm.

As part of the investigation, detectives have already charged three people and made a number of arrests.

A 16-year-old boy from Sittingbourne was charged with murder.

The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared at Medway youth court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody until his first appearance at Maidstone Crown Court, which is expected to be tomorrow.

Victor Maibvisira, 19, of St Johns Road, Gillingham, was previously charged with murder and affray after being arrested in Woolwich on Tuesday, October 10.

He appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday and was remanded until his next appearance on Tuesday, November 14.

A third teenager, a 17-year-old also from the Gillingham area, was previously charged with threatening a person with a blade after a separate incident in Gillingham Road, Gillingham, on Sunday, October 1.

He appeared before Medway youth court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was remanded until his next appearance on Tuesday, November 7.

Two 20-year-old men and a 15-year-old boy, all from the Gillingham area, have been released under investigation.

Four others from the Gillingham area, aged 15, 16 and two aged 18, have all been bailed until various dates in November.
