Town up for sale in website spoof

SITTINGBOURNE is for sale. Well it is according to an item on the on-line auction site Ebay.

A group of friends set up a detailed and uncomplimentary information page about the town, complete with pictures. On Wednesday, with just over a day to go until the auction closed, the latest bid was £686.

Among the site’s sales pitches, is “......this High Street will provide everything you need for your Christmas shop, as long as you are tight, desperate, tasteless, and nothing else is available.” It adds: “Other features include the traditional Sittingbourne and Kemsley steam railway which allows you to view the local wonders such as the dump, the local sewage works, and Asda.

“Not forgetting the casino in the High Street, well, amusement arcade, well lots of fruit machines in a swanky room really.

“Although there are no nightclubs left, there is plenty of nightlife. Smashed bottles and baseball bats not provided.

“So go on, splash out and buy yourself a town, and remember, Sittingbourne - is a town gloriously founded on the extravagance of the brick-making industry!”

The advert bears a remarkable resemblence to the infamous sheppeyscum.co.uk website.

The pair behind the ebay spoof are former Borden Grammar School friends Jimmy Ludlow and Ben Wintle, both 20. Jimmy lives in Chegworth Gardens, Sittingbourne, and Ben in the town's Laxton Way.

Jimmy said: "We really set it up to publicise an event we are planning in August called Race to Africa. We want teams to try to get there in two days.

"Sittingbourne is my home town and I must admit that it has gradually got better over the last few months but there is still not a lot to do here for the younger generation. Log onto www.jimmys-place.co.uk for more information about the event."
