Train plunge victim is named

A MAN who died after being hit by a train at a Kent railway station has been named by police.

He was Leonard Read, a married father, who lived at Orchard Grove, Minster, near Sheerness.

Mr Read died instantly under the wheels of the 10.04am Dover Priory to London Victoria train as it pulled into Sittingbourne railway station on Monday, February 27. He was aged 65.

Mr Read had been an employee of Cooper Crouse-Hinds, formerly owned by Weidmuller in Dorset Road, Sheerness. An inquest has been opened and adjourned.
