Tenterden-based Benn Barham has secured his European Tour card for next season after finishing his season with a 58th place finish at the Castello Masters in Spain.

The 32-year-old took home a cheque for 5,600 euros, in a tournament won by Spanish star Sergio Garcia, writes Alex Birch.

“I’ve had an up and down season,” Barham said. “Ultimately its good that I’ve got my card for next season because it means another year’s work.

“I’ve had some really good results, like my third position in Russia and my fourth in Wales, but I’ve been a bit inconsistent and I missed too many cuts.

“That can be the difference between finishing 90th in the Order of Merit and where I eventually finished (110th).”

The Ashford-born professional will now take 10 weeks off as he awaits the birth of his first child, before beginning another year on the tour in January.
