Car on Percy Road, Broadstairs, gets trapped by cones during resurfacing work

A driver got more than they bargained for when workers resurfaced a road around their parked car.

Road staff were laying down a fresh coat of tar in Broadstairs, when they came across a Fiat 500, whose driver had apparently not got the memo about the planned works.

The hatchback was then surrounded by yellow cones, as Percy Road was surfaced.

Alasdair Baker, who lives on the street, suspects the driver was on holiday when the repairs took place.

“The council had put up signs saying the road was going to be resurfaced, with a picture of a tow-truck,” said Mr Baker.

“So you would have thought that someone would have towed it away, but instead the workman just went around the vehicle.”

The resident added that resurfacers have returned to the road and finished the job, but the blue car has since been parking elsewhere.

Mr Baker said he thought the driver had been “right embarrassed” and they’re parking further away now.

Damarall Werrey-Easterbrook spotted the unusal sight on Saturday when she was walking with her son to the library.

“The car stood out like a sore thumb, as the cones were everywhere,” the mum said in MailOnline.

“I drove past yesterday and the little Fiat 500 had gone but with all the cones put neatly back in place, like it had done the drive of shame unnoticed.”

Mr Baker said that chatting with one of the workers, he learnt that avoiding parked cars is actually a common practice.

“The work was all done in about four hours,” he added.

“One of the workers told me that they resurface around parked cars in London all the time.”
