For sale - a polystyrene crocodile head, a two-dimensional lifesize Tardis, stage costumes, horses heads made out of basketware and a clock which counts backwards in time.

Margate-based theatre charity Channel Theatre Trust - best known for its touring productions under the name of Chalkfoot - is having a clear out.

It gives members of the public a unique opportunity to buy a range of wacky and wonderful props, costumes and items of staging at its Park Place headquarters behind Margate Fire Station on Friday, February 26, and Saturday, February 27, with all proceeds from the sale going towards the theatre company’s work.

Channel Theatre Trust has been in operation since 1983 and has been based in its present headquarters since 1998.

Artistic Director Philip Dart is hopeful that the items accumulated during the company’s 27 year history will go to good homes. He said: “Central Studios is an Aladdin’s cave, filled with props and staging from hundreds of productions.

If you are a collector of the bizarre, a vintage fashion lover or an amateur drama company looking for costumes and scenery, we will have something for you.”

On Friday there will be a private sale day for amateur theatre companies, arts
organisations and specialist dealers - call 01843 280077 for an invitation (you will be asked to bring proof of affiliation to your company or group).

Then from 10am - 4pm on Saturday the sale will open to the public. Buyers must provide their own transport and all items must be paid for in cash and taken away on the day.
For further information call the number above or email claudia@chalkfoot.org.uk.

Chalkfoot’s next appearance in Thanet will be at Theatre Royal Margate when it brings back its highly acclaimed production, The Riddle of the Sands, on March 28.
