Harbour Street, Ramsgate, closed yesterday due to gas leak

A gas leak led to fire crews closing a town centre road for six hours.

Police were also called to Harbour Street, Ramsgate yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters were alerted at 12.51pm to reports of a suspected gas leak at a commercial premises

Three fire engines and a technical rescue unit attended and a cordon was put in place while crews ventilated the building and checked the area was safe.

The street was closed while safety checks were carried out, and crews left the scene just before 7pm.

Police were also in attendance, assisting firefighters and gas safety engineers at the scene from 1.30pm until 8.30pm.

There were no injuries from incident and the Christmas Light switch-on in the town centre went on as planned at 4.30pm.

The road is now fully open.
