Police raid homes after imitation grenades found in property in Westgate

Police investigating the discovery of imitation grenades have seized drugs in a series of raids.

Residents in Westgate Bay Avenue in Westgate were evacuated from their homes on Sunday and the road cordoned off by police as experts from the Ministry of Defence Ordnance Disposal Unit assessed two suspicious items that had been found.

The objects were later confirmed to be imitation grenades and officers also seized cannabis at the home.

Part of St Mildred's Road and Westgate Bay Avenue were cordoned off.

Raids were carried out as part of the same investigation at homes in Invicta Road and Poets Corner, Margate, yesterday.

A police spokesperson said: "A man in his 20s and a man in his 30s, both from the Thanet area, were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and have been bailed to dates in September and October while inquiries continue."
