Ramsgate RNLI called after man drives mobility scooter over harbour wall near lighthouse

Lifeboat crews were called following reports a man had accidentally driven his mobility scooter over a harbour wall and into the water.

The incident happened at Ramsgate Harbour, near the lighthouse on the West Pier shortly before 9.30am this morning.

An inshore RNLI lifeboat crew was deployed alongside the Margate Coastguard Rescue Team and the Mobile Coastguard unit.

A pilot vessel in the harbour was also involved.

Upon arrival crews found the man had already been plucked from the water by members of the public who had witnessed the incident.

He was passed into the care of the paramedics who assessed him and found his whose core temperature to have dropped to 34 degrees.
