3 slightly hurt as police car crashes

TWO police officers and the driver of a Renault Modus car suffered minor injuries in a road crash.

The marked police car was responding to a call in Tonbridge when the collision occurred in the town's Hadlow Road, near the junction with The Ridgeway, at about 4.55pm on Thursday.

No-one required hospital treatment. Both cars needed to be recovered from the roadside. Another police dealt with the call.

Insp Gian Chahal, of Tonbridge and Malling police, said: "Because the police car was responding to a call when the collision happened the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) was asked to attend the incident.

"In order for a full and thorough investigation to take place the road was closed for several hours at the junctions with The Ridgeway and Yardley Park Road."

He added: "We apologise to motorists and residents for the inconvenience they were caused as a result of the road being closed but I hope people will understand that if a police vehicle is involved in a collision it is important that it is properly investigated."

The SCIU is asking for any witnesses to the collision to contact the witness appeal line on 01622 798538.
